ABOUT US
We are taking 20 acres of land to build a vocational school in sewing weaving wielding carpentry farming animal husbandry and programs in the arts. The land is near Rokel river, an hour drive from Freetown. It can easily support an 8 room building and another building for eating and sleeping quarters for students and teachers. The surrounding area across the river is a sprawling of upcoming mostly small town communities and villages. This area has astounding natural beauty, and was somewhat of an oasis during the civil war, and is still is stable. Electricity is possibly accessible via a nearby line to Dr. Secter’s land, a nearby animal farm, but generators will be supplementary as a backup. Two hours away, the Marampa Mine produces some of the purest iron ore on earth, run by London Mining, who regularly funds community development and scholarships for local children. Surprisingly resilient, Sierra Leone’s GDP grew by 27% in 2002 after the civil war, followed by 9% in 2003 and an average of just over 7% for the period 2004 to 2007, before slowing down to 5.5 percent growth in 2008 and 4% in 2009 during the global crisis.
